In Toastmasters, there’s a project in The Successful Club Series called Moments of Truth and it is a powerful tool for performing an evaluation of your Toastmasters club by the members (and sometimes guests) of your Toastmasters club and it is done along six key moments the can be used to gauge how well your club is doing and where it could improve.
Making the Most of Moments of Truth was the name of a workshop I ran at a Corporate Club Officer Training session for District 91 in July 2015, in my first month as Area Director. You can find the materials used to run it on the District 91 website (scroll down to Corporate COT Presentation July 2015), including the original handout I put together.
A lot has changed in the intervening years since that initial delivery. When I joined my first online club in 2016, I ran a multi-year High Performance Leadership project to explore conducting Moments of Truth online. After the roll out of Pathways, the Successful Club Series, was somewhat orphaned, but now, the projects in it have been incorporated into Pathways and Moments of Truth now meets one of the requirements for Level 5 in most paths.
One 5 Aug 2026, I delivered a short Making the Most of Moments of Truth segment at an Online/Hybrid Club Officer Training (hosted by D91.B9 & Excalibur Online Global Speakers) and thought I would do this brief write up giving some of the background of how I came up with the materials.

Down the road, I expect to augment this write up with more detail and perhaps some videos that showcase the multipronged value of this club evaluation tool, including how it can be an effective officer handover tool to help the new club officers get a handle on what is working well and what could use some work before the go to Club Officer Training, as input into their Club Success Plan and as preparation for their Area Director Visit. In the meantime, if you’re planning to run a Moments of Truth session at your club, review the materials and make the presentation your own, be creative and make the most of it!
