I owe them my life.

Today is World Quaker Day, and I am so grateful to the Religious Society of Friends, the Quakers, all over the world.

Since February, I have been trying to connect with Quakers in Egypt, and yesterday, I was finally able to do so, meeting Ray, locally, and Jane visiting Egypt from Brighton.

We had a wonderful conversation together sharing inspiring focus going on in each others lives as the Light works with us, ranging from an exploration of literacy in Sub Saharan Africa & Aswan, to encouragement of young refugees through the Hands Up Project in my family’s neighborhood of Faisal, and my own efforts to scout our future through workshops and imagineering – I was even able to give a quick time travel session for clarity with Jane, which was well received.

On my way back home, I stopped at my Uncle’s residence to pay him a visit before having dinner with my mother. I had known my father had stayed with Quakers in Pennsylvania when he immigrated to the US, but had not realized he did so with my Uncle and when he shared that with me, I pressed for more details, and learned that the Braun family Quakers sponsored both of them in their immigration to the US and without that sponsorship, I would not have been born.

There was another connection, when the US opened immigration to Egyptian Christians, my Uncle invited my father to apply with him and my father refused. Fortunately, my Uncle snatched his passport and applied for him and they were both accepted. Thanks Uncle.

In the past couple of years, I have gotten more involved in the Quaker community in England. Their stand for truth, justice, peace and the Light with an openness to respect the Divine working in every individual have been a particularly encouraging source of encouragement to me in these dark times.

In the end, we each have our part to play in making the world a better place and that is at the core of what I am focusing on in my workshops, how to empower individuals to be the change that they want to see in their lives and in the world.

One of the things we talked about last night was the Quaker encouragement for each individual to choose their path to express justice, peace & the Light in the world.

One uncle, chose to apply to immigrate to the US on his brother’s behalf.

One family, chose to sponsor my father and his brother to immigrate to the United States.

I owe them my life.
