About: below is a summary of a series of Live Action Role Playing games that I ran as part of Furthest Frontiers beginning in 2022. They are set in Craig Alanson‘s Expeditionary Force book series, beginning with the novel, Columbus Day.
Columbus Day – The Days After (Springvasion – Sun 28 Aug 2022):
Shortly after the alien Ruhar (Hamsters) invaded Earth on Columbus Day, we were saved by the Kristang (Lizards). In the days after Columbus Day, humanity strived to rebuild and secure its place in the galactic community.
Captain Hatfield and his troops, on a training exercise with the Kristang to vet the readiness of humanity to fight the Ruhar alongside the Kristang, learned that the Kristang are not necessarily the allies they had hoped for and that the Ruhar may be their best chance to avoid becoming enslaved by the Kristang.
With the help of a few MI-5 agents, Captain Hatfield and his Expeditionary Force took out the Kristang troopers who landed to capture Commander Bette of the Ruhar. An MI-5 Helio approaches to take her away for debriefing with humanity’s leaders with the hopes of finding a way to break free of the Kristang.
Escape Velocity (Morning Game – Sun 16 Oct 2022) – Private John E was able to get the captured Kristang Troop Carrier, The Orange Flames of Emmett’s Glory Will Never Be Forgotten, is able to decipher the Kristang control system and the voice in his radio identifies itself as an Elder AI, The Dave recommends to obtain the star charts that will allow them to escape the Kristang forces on Earth.
Captain Hatfield’s Expeditionary Force along with a handful of MI-5 agents and Commander Bette of the Ruhar obtained the Kristang’s Star Charts, despite the
incessant voice of The Dave exuberant excitement at the filthy monkeys’ success in obtaining the charts and urgent badgering to get them back to the ship before they’re caught. Commander Bette, was last seen covering their retreat and keeping the overwhelming Kristang forces at bay as they raced back to the cave in which Emmett’s Glory had been hidden.
Sol Survivors (Invasion – Fri 23 Aug 2024)
Captain Hatfield heroically sacrifices himself to distract Kristang forces outside the cave with the ship and the teams forces are nearly overwhelmed until Commander Bette flies in using a jetpack and takes out the remaining Kristang forces. Sergeant Dillon takes command of the Expeditionary Force and the Dave recommends obtaining a device to gain clearance to a Kristang Moon research base in which they can gain fuel and other “supplies” necessary to make take the shift to the Ruhar world of Paradise. The Expeditionary Force infiltrated the base using Kristang EV suits and with realtime translation and authorisation provided by the Dave, obtain the necessary fuel and the potato shaped form of the Elder AI who, in his supreme awesomeness, bends space time to transport Emmett’s Glory from the Moon out of the Solar System and to the planet Paradise.
